Review of the IPCC includes faculty from across the US & World
McGill University in Montreal is hosting the InterAcademy Council (IAC) committee which is conducting an independent review of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) today. This review stems from a request from United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon amid controversy after some flaws in the panel’s findings emerged last year.
Scientists from a variety of universities are presenting on the IPCC assessment processes and are suggesting changes in how the assessments are communicated and how the panel runs generally. The IPCC is currently working on its fifth review of climate science which is scheduled to be published in 2014.
Chris Field a biologist and earth scientist at Stanford University can be seen in the below interview discussing the issue of credibility and the IPCC. Dr. Fields is serving as the co-chair of the current IPCC assessment:
Other scheduled speakers include:
- John Christy who works as the director of the Earth Systems Science Center at the University of Alabama
- Robert Watson, professor of environmental sciences at the University of East Anglia (UK)
- Hans von Storch, professor at the Meteorological Institute at the University of Hamburg (Germany).
