Reflections on AASHE’s 20th Anniversary
By: Fahmida Ahmed Bangert

Congratulations AASHE on your 20th anniversary. Gratitude to the leadership, staff, members, and supporters for building and growing the largest network for sustainability solutions for higher education in the country.
I had the privilege to serve as a board member in 2013, 2014 and then chair the board in 2015 and 2016, and experience first-hand the power and impact of sustainability professionals and their collective solutions. AASHE’s programs and tools have started sustainability in universities and colleges, given leaders a career path, shown faculty and students a pathway to apply their passion and talent, demonstrated that results are possible no matter the starting point, and bolstered sustainability momentum during good and better times.
Associations like AASHE are the reason why we have hope and solutions for governance, action, results and the legacy of passing on the torch so the mission can continue. Sharing some pictures from 10 years ago of AASHE in Minneapolis, MN, absolute highlight of my career. Time flies as the impact surmounts. Forever proud to be a part of AASHE, grateful for the force we were and are, and always looking your way.
