AASHE to Co-Host Official Side Event at WIREC -
Washington International Renewable Energy Conference
Washington, D.C.- The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), in conjunction with the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE), the Apollo Alliance, CDS International, and InWEnt, GmBh, will host an Official Side Event at the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC) being held March 4-6, 2008 at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.
WIREC 2008 is the largest renewable energy conference in the country. Hosted by the U.S. Government in cooperation with the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), the conference will examine how both public policies and private efforts can most effectively advance the adoption of renewable energy efforts on a global scale.
“WIREC 2008 will bring thousands of thought leaders and practitioners from across the spectrum of government, industry, finance and civil society together to address how we can meet growing global energy needs,†said Chéri Olf, Director of Higher Education and Workforce Development for ACORE. “We welcome AASHE's involvement in this historic event and we look forward to their leading a discussion that examines the role of renewable energy within overall sustainability strategies.â€
The event, “Renewable Energy Education and Workforce Development: A Global Outlook," will take place on Tuesday, March 4 from 12:30-3:00 p.m.at the Washington Convention Center. The session was designed by the participating organizations to provide a brief, global overview of the current and future workforce needs of the renewable energy industry, and a look at how education providers at the college and university level are responding to those demands.

Along with energy efficiency and energy conservation, it figures prominently in two of our key programs - the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment and the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS). We are glad to join with our partners from the US and abroad to share ideas and advance the state of the field,†said Judy Walton, Acting Executive Director of AASHE.
The session will be moderated by Bracken Hendricks, founding Executive Director of the Apollo Alliance, and Senior Fellow with the Center for American Progress.
