April 3, 2019 (Philadelphia, PA) – Today, AASHE opened early bird registration for the 2019 AASHE Conference & Expo. This year’s conference will take place October 27 – 30 at the Spokane Convention Center in Spokane, WA. AASHE 2019 includes many favorite events from previous years, including the Student Summit, AASHE Sustainability Awards and an Expo Hall with 90+ exhibitors, as well as new deep dives for select topics, curated tracks, keynote speakers and topical sessions that will be announced in the coming weeks.

This year’s theme, “Co-Creating a Sustainable Economy”, examines the root cause for the continued rise in carbon emissions: our dysfunctional economic system. The conference seeks to showcase and strengthen higher education’s contributions to the movement for a sustainable economy, which AASHE sees as inclusive of the exciting work happening under a variety of other names such as the solidarity economy, wellbeing economy, circular economy, post-growth economy, regenerative economy and restorative economy.

“We’re excited to bring our conference to west for the first time in five years! With the Spokane City Council recently passing an ordinance to commit to the goal of 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030, the support in Washington State for sustainability is clear. Spokane is the perfect location for us to showcase how institutions lead the global sustainability transformation,” said Kimberly Smith, AASHE Director of Conference & Events.

Expected to draw approximately 2,000 participants, AASHE’s annual conference is the largest stage in North America to exchange effective models, policies, research, collaborations and transformative actions that advance sustainability in higher education and surrounding communities.

Attendees can register for AASHE 2019 by visiting conference.aashe.org. Early bird discounts apply now through May 31. Prices increase on June 1.
