AASHE is proud to support the Movement for Black Lives’ (M4BL) in its efforts to address the stark inequities that the COVID-19 pandemic has only furthered. Black people are amongst the most negatively impacted by this pandemic and other atrocities such as Hurricane Katrina. AASHE believes five demands set forth:
- A thorough plan to release people from jails, prisons and detention centers
- A structure where emergency powers are not abused and people’s health and safety are prioritized
- The removal of all barriers to housing, healthcare and education
- A system that allows every person to vote
- The prioritization of relief efforts to Black families and communities over corporations
