AASHE recently supported The Alliance to Save Energy by signing a proposal to the U.S. Senate & House of Representatives to support Critical Facility Renewal by using public-private partnerships to spur investments of $100 billion aimed to improve the safety, energy efficiency, resilience, and flexibility of critical public facilities. This proposal would help to put thousands of people back to work and deliver updated mission-critical public facilities such as hospitals and schools. The need for this investment is well documented as critical public facilities are falling into disrepair, with an estimated maintenance backlog of $1 trillion. The ongoing COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated why modernized facilities are so badly needed to better manage public health crises and other disasters.
