The Amazon biome is home to thousands of Indigenous and frontline communities and is critical to global climate regulation. Due to continued bank investment in oil and gas activity, the rainforest is at a tipping point: it is poised to become a climate change accelerator as it converts from being one of the world’s largest carbon sinks to a carbon emitter. AASHE endorsed the Exit Amazon Oil and Gas Platform which includes immediate and long-term commitments to end investment in oil and gas activities in the Amazon biome. Read the Platform.
