Some fellow students and myself were deligated the task of performing an energy audit on appliances in a number of buildings on our campus. The idea is to quantize the amount of energy and money that could be saved by buying energy star products. There is a strong focus on getting actual data. I was wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions to help us do the best job possible?
Hi Daniel,
I'm working on an equipment audit at St Louis Community College as well. I found this article that might help: enduse.lbl.gov/Projects/OffEqpt.html I used that article to create a list of office equipment that I want to track. I am having electrical engineering students run this audit for me.

Daniel,
At the University of Missouri we purchased kill-a-watts to measure and show how much energy individual appliances use in a dorm room. They work really well to measure current usage and to add it up over time. I think we purchased ours for around $20 a piece at Home Depot. http://www.killawattplus.com/?gclid=CJLugcj_hqQCFZxo5QodhnWkLA
My thought would be to leave it plugged in over a week, or at least a few days, to get a longer baseline of usage.
Hope that helps,
Patrick
