Hello all:
I have a question regarding credit OP-8: Clean & Renewable Energy. Is the "total energy consumed" field asking only for building energy usage (Scope 1&2 sources) or should I include Scope 3 sources; such as, transportation? I would be greatly appreciative if any of you can give assistance.
Best,
Tim Godaire

Hey Tim,
Thank you for your inquiry about STARS. I appreciate you letting us know that the credit content is not specific enough. We will definitely take note for the next version of STARS.
If you take a look in the STARS Technical Manual, in Section F: Measurement, check out the details under "Sampling." The Technical Manual outlines, "Report all on-site, stationary energy that was consumed by the institution (as the institution defines in the overall STARS institutional boundary). Reporting on a sample or subset of energy generation and consumption is not allowed for this credit."
Therefore, since "on-site" is specified please only report on Scope 1 & 2 emissions.
I hope you find this information helpful. Please feel free to email stars@aashe.org if you have any additional STARS specific questions.
Best,
Jillian
