Board of Directors

The Board of Directors advises, governs, oversees policy and direction, and assists with the leadership and general promotion of AASHE so as to support the organization’s mission and needs. Serving as a board member is both a challenging and rewarding volunteer task. While appointment or election to any board is an honor, board members have important legal and fiduciary responsibilities that require a commitment of time, skill and resources. Prospective AASHE board members should make sure they can commit the time needed to participate effectively.

Term: Three years

Open Positions: Two

Eligibility: Applicants must be employees or students of current AASHE member organization in good standing. Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to think strategically about the direction of AASHE on behalf of all members as well as the greater sustainability in higher education community. Acceptance of an application does not guarantee the eligibility of a candidate. If, at a later point in time, a candidate is found to be ineligible, that candidate will be disqualified.

  2. Applicants are required to declare that the primary member contact at their organization is aware of and supports their nomination to serve as an AASHE Board Member. Please log in, select your organization under My Profile, and select “Manage Organization Contacts” to view the primary contact for your organization.
  3. Submit an Application by October 23, 2017

Advisory Council

Consisting of leaders from higher education, business, nonprofits and government, the AC provides advice and guidance to staff on high-level strategy as well as specific programs and services.

Term: Two years

Open Positions: Unlimited

Eligibility: Applicants must be employees or students of current AASHE member organization in good standing. Acceptance of an application does not guarantee the eligibility of a candidate. If, at a later point in time, a candidate is found to be ineligible, that candidate will be disqualified.

STARS Steering Committee

The STARS Steering Committee is responsible for approving changes to STARS credits and serving in an advisory role on all matters related to STARS. Steering Committee members should possess a deep understanding of AASHE’s mission and the goals of STARS, familiarity with at least one of the content areas covered in STARS, and familiarity with rating systems and sustainability indicators, as well as have effective communication skills and the ability to be a collaborative team player.

Term: Three years

Open Positions: Four

Eligibility: Applicants must be employees or students of current AASHE member organization in good standing. Acceptance of an application does not guarantee the eligibility of a candidate. If, at a later point in time, a candidate is found to be ineligible, that candidate will be disqualified.

STARS Technical Advisors

STARS Technical Advisors are the primary source for input and insight regarding the content of STARS credits. Technical Advisors are drawn from higher education institutions, non-profit organizations and businesses, with preference given for AASHE members.

Term: Three years

Open Positions: There are no open positions at this time.

Eligibility: Any individual may apply to become a STARS Technical Advisor.
