As a Canadian and past President of AASHE, I’ve always believed in the power of community—especially when it comes to sustainability in higher education. This year, I have heard from some colleagues who are hesitant about traveling to the U.S. for the conference, and I understand those concerns. But for me, that’s exactly why I’m choosing to attend AASHE 2025.

In times of uncertainty, it becomes even more important to gather, to share ideas, and to support one another. AASHE has always been a space where changemakers come together to inspire, challenge, and uplift each other. It’s where we find not only solutions, but solidarity.

I’m attending because I want to be part of that energy again—to connect with peers who are just as committed to embedding sustainability into every corner of higher education. The work we do is too important to pause, and the relationships we build at AASHE is what keeps that work moving forward.

So yes, the journey may come with a few extra considerations this year. But I believe the destination—a vibrant, engaged, and resilient community—is well worth it.

I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

François Miller
