In June 2025, AASHE signed on to a letter led by the Equitable and Just National Climate Platform (EJNCP), calling on Congress to protect public health and environmental justice programs from proposed cuts in the Budget Reconciliation bill. The letter highlights the essential role of programs such as Air Pollution Monitoring for schools, the Environmental and Climate Justice Block Grants, and the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants in improving community health, reducing pollution, and preparing for climate-related hazards. These programs support evidence-based solutions including zero-emission vehicle adoption, air quality monitoring, and community resilience planning, particularly in historically overburdened communities. By joining this sign-on effort, AASHE reaffirms its commitment to sustainable practices that prioritize equity, health, and environmental responsibility in higher education and beyond.
