SUMMARY:Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop at Dickinson College 2026
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the AASHE\, Dickinson has hosted the Valley & Ridge Faculty Development Workshop. and opened applications to educators from other colleges and universities to participate alongside the Dickinson cohort since 2017. As a regional center for excellence in sustainability across the curriculum\, Dickinson is committed creating innovative and effective change in higher education sustainability curriculum development.  Each year\, educators that are thinking about integrating social\, economic and/or environmental sustainability into their undergraduate teaching are encouraged to apply\, and about 20 participants are accepted into the 2.5 day residential program. We have now worked with over 28 other institutions from throughout the region and covered disciplines such as engineering\, theatre and dance\, economics\, Italian\, and chemistry. \nValley & Ridge has annually brought together educators from all academic disciplines to work collaboratively to introduce and enhance sustainability content in new and existing courses across the curriculum. Sponsored by Dickinson’s Center for Sustainability Education (CSE)\, this workshop has helped over 150 Dickinson faculty connect the subject areas of their teaching with sustainability using active learning pedagogies such as place-based & experiential education since 2008. \nThe Valley and Ridge Project at Dickinson takes its name from the physiographic region within which the College lies\, which is marked by the Allegheny Plateau to the north and west\, South Mountain to the south and east\, and Cumberland Valley in-between. The project got its impetus from Dickinson’s participation in the Shared Futures and Sustainability Initiatives of the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). The Valley and Ridge Project is modeled after the Piedmont Project of Emory University and the Ponderosa Project of Northern Arizona University. \nParticipants that complete the program are then classified as Valley & Ridge Fellows and can contribute to and benefit from a resource network with other fellows\, participate in continuing education and experiential programs offered by CSE\, and continue to advance sustainability within their discipline and across the curriculum. \nSee past curriculum development projects here. \nValley & Ridge Workshop Website; Apply Now: No Later than March 27\, 2026 \nMore Information and Apply \nDickinson College is one of the regional AASHE Centers for Sustainability Across the Curriculum. Centers host workshops and other professional development opportunities throughout the year. SUMMARY:Award Webinar: JCCC's Sustainability Distinction Program: A Customizable Model for Sustainability Education
DESCRIPTION:“Johnson County Community College“ is the recipient of a 2026 AASHE Campus Sustainability Achievement Award. This webinar is part of the 2026 Awards showcase highlighting all four winners in this category. \n  \nThis session will discuss how Johnson County Community College created and launched the Sustainability Distinction Program (SDP)\, an academic program that embeds sustainability across degree pathways—without adding a new major\, minor\, or certificate. Open to students from all disciplines and functioning similar to an honors program\, the SDP allows participants to graduate with a sustainability distinction added to their transcript through coursework\, experiential learning\, and reflection. The session will highlight the program’s innovative design\, describing how to keep the “extra lift” for students manageable while centering equity and access and utilizing existing institutional structures. The session will discuss how the four program requirements of coursework\, cohort meetings\, sustainability activities\, and a reflective capstone portfolio support systems thinking\, while helping students connect sustainability to their academic\, personal\, and professional goals. Grounded in lessons learned from the program’s first year\, this presentation will offer practical takeaways for institutions interested in expanding sustainability education in ways that are scalable\, low-cost\, and rooted in existing campus structures. \nRegister Today \nPresenters\n\n\n\n\n\nRachael Rost-Allen\, Sustainability Education and Engagement Coordinator\, Johnson County Community College \nRachael Rost-Allen\, Ed.D.\, is the Sustainability Education and Engagement Coordinator at Johnson County Community College (JCCC)\, where she partners with faculty\, staff\, and students to integrate sustainability into curriculum and campus initiatives. SUMMARY:Award Webinar: From Risk to Readiness: Institutionalizing Climate Resilience at McGill University
DESCRIPTION:“McGill University“ is the recipient of a 2026 AASHE Campus Sustainability Achievement Award. This webinar is part of the 2026 Awards showcase highlighting all four winners in this category. \n  \nIn 2024\, McGill University released its first climate risk assessment\, identifying the risks posed by a changing climate to its campus infrastructure\, operations\, and community. By providing a comprehensive understanding of the University’s vulnerability to climate change\, the risk assessment established a foundation for effective risk management and adaptation strategies at McGill. \nThis initiative\, one of the first of its kind in Canada\, exemplifies a collaborative\, replicable\, and whole-systems approach. It was co-led by the Office of Sustainability and Internal Audit\, and supported by a cross-functional committee of administrative units in partnership with a local consulting firm. This governance structure was intentionally designed to break down institutional silos and embed climate adaptation into existing risk management processes. \nAs a result\, the university set a target to address 100% of its critical climate risks by 2030\, establishing climate resilience as a strategic institutional commitment. A Climate Adaptation & Resilience working group of faculty\, staff\, and students subsequently identified key adaptation actions to incorporate into the McGill Climate & Sustainability Strategy 2025–2030. These actions range from raising awareness about extreme weather events to updated design standards. \nAdaptation actions have begun to be implemented\, including offering eco-anxiety workshops and designating libraries as cooling centres during heatwaves. To accelerate regional adaptation efforts\, McGill partnered with eight Quebec universities to share its approach and co-develop a common methodology for climate risk assessments. \nThis initiative illustrates how key partnerships and broad collaboration can embed sustainability into institutional culture while driving meaningful impact on and beyond campus. \nRegister Today \nPresenters\n\n\n\n\n\nDivya Sharma\, Climate & Biodiversity Officer\, McGill University \nDivya supports McGill on its path to carbon neutrality by 2040 through various climate action projects on campus\, including producing the University’s annual greenhouse gas inventory. She also coordinates the implementation of McGill’s biodiversity plan and climate adaptation actions to help McGill become a nature-positive university and increase its climate resilience.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKrista Houser\, Associate Director (Strategy & Governance)\, Sustainability\, McGill University \nKrista leads McGill’s sustainability strategy and governance portfolio\, including development and implementation of the University’s Climate & Sustainability Strategy and institutional sustainability monitoring and reporting. Her portfolio supports McGill’s long-term commitments on carbon neutrality\, climate resilience\, and biodiversity\, as well as efforts to embed sustainability in teaching and learning.\n\n\n\n
