Webinar: The Real Food Database

March 25, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

Free

What food products are Real? Which vendors are verified as fair, ecological, and/or humane? Now, institutions of higher education can find out through the Real Food Database! Compiled from years of research done by students at colleges and universities all over the country, the database lists the products and companies that institutions can shift towards to build a just and sustainable campus food system. Real Food Calculator researchers can also access this database to learn what products have already been identified as Real or not Real, streamlining the tracking and reporting process of an (oftentimes) complicated and opaque food system. Learn how this tool can support your campus’s food procurement efforts and your AASHE STARS reporting!

Tina White, Program Coordinator, Real Food Challenge

Tina is a passionate advocate for a just and sustainable food system that is led by the communities that it feeds. She hails from the Ryukyu Islands (or Okinawa) of southern Japan where her love of food began. The island cooking that she shared with her maternal family gave her a strong and tangible link to her roots. She is now based in Washington state where she has been working in the arena of food justice. With Real Food Challenge, Tina is the Program Coordinator and supports student researchers with the Real Food Calculator along with helping schools who signed a Real Food Campus Commitment to stay on track of their goals. She is inspired by community storytelling and the quiet power of compassion.
