GCSHE 2020 Pre-Conference Session | Mobilizing to VOTE: Climate 2020

This advanced broadcast session from the upcoming Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education will highlight the voter registration process and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) campaign. Young people are the largest voting block in this country and have a tremendous influence in ensuring climate action from elected officials in 2020 and every election after. October 2020 will provide ample opportunity to be heavily engaged in GOTV efforts and get people to the polls. Learn about Our Climate’s campaign, the importance of mobilizing and changing the electorate to #voteclimate, and how you can mobilize your peers.
Our Climate is engaged in a dynamic partnership with the Alliance for Climate Education to make climate change a priority in the 2020 election. Our Climate has also partnered with various state table organizations to provide data, training and resources for voter registration/GOTV efforts. Attendees can Our Climate will give attendees the option to Pledge to Vote in person at the webinar. Pledging to vote will help us list build and gain contact information, that way we can send reminders to people to help GOTV. Our Climate is a millennial led organization that mobilizes young people to advocate for climate policies. Young people millennial age and younger are the largest voting bloc in the country. Mobilizing young people can have profound impact on the elections if we show up.

Steven recently graduated with a B.A. in History from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Steven focuses on understanding the past to provide context into today’s problems and then works to solve those problems by utilizing the principles of sustainability. He served as president of a student organization called Sustain UNL. As president, he oversaw the transition from a small environmental club to an active and engaged organization. Steven has been an active volunteer with Citizens Climate Lobby and started as a Field Rep with OC in 2018, bringing the #PutAPriceOnIt campaign to UNL. His role with OC is to reach out to campuses across the country and recruit, train and support student leaders to contribute to state and federal level carbon pricing efforts. Steven utilizes his free time for his love of travel and can usually be found watching the latest highlights from all levels of wrestling.
