Webinar: AI Policy & Sustainability in Higher Education

April 14 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT
Sustainability offices across higher education are increasingly being asked to weigh in on AI:  by provosts prioritizing AI literacy, by students concerned about environmental impact, and by colleagues seeking values-driven guidance on a technology evolving faster than campus governance can keep pace. This session equips participants with the policy context, environmental data, and institutional frameworks needed to engage confidently in these conversations. The first half covers the current U.S. and international AI policy landscape, the environmental footprint of generative AI (energy consumption, water use, data center impacts), and emerging models for campus AI governance that center sustainability values. The second half opens into facilitated discussion where participants share institutional scenarios, pressure-test approaches with peers, and think through challenges ranging from responding to a administration’s AI mandate to crafting a sustainability office position on responsible AI use.
