AASHE Award Winner Webinar – Taking Carbon Off-Setting Beyond the Campus

February 22, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST

Free

This webinar will tell the story of the Community Conservation Corps (CCC), a community weatherization program run through the David E. Shi Center for Sustainability at Furman University. The CCC was developed to help Furman meet its goal of carbon neutrality by 2026 while making positive changes close to home. The CCC provides free home weatherization to low-income homeowners in the greater Greenville community. Through partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County, the CCC reduces energy consumption and promotes the financial stability of homeowners through weatherization, energy conservation, and education. Program participants save an average of 25% on their monthly utility costs, freeing up funds to support other areas of need for their families. To date, the program has weatherized more than 100 homes in Greenville and has generated more than 100 mTCO2e emissions reduction which the university applies as an offset in its annual greenhouse gas reporting.
