AASHE Bulletin
|
"I get a fair amount of these sorts of emailed bulletins, and NONE are as informative, easy to read, well-designed, appropriately condensed, and carefully produced as AASHE's."

"THANK YOU for keeping on top of all the campus sustainability news from across the nation, as well as sharing it with all of us — the Bulletin is often a highlight of my week. We receive too little good news otherwise."

To help you keep up with the rapidly evolving world of campus sustainability, AASHE offers a free weekly e-newsletter called AASHE Bulletin. It delivers the latest campus sustainability news, resources, opportunities, and events from the U.S. and Canada. It's a great way to find out what campuses are doing around sustainability and learn about new resources and opportunities. Subscribers include campus administrators, faculty, staff, students and professionals interested in campus sustainability.

Submission Guidelines
AASHE Bulletin is a great vehicle for publicizing your campus sustainability news, opportunities, job postings, and events. Before submitting items for consideration, please review the guidelines below and examine previous issues for examples of the type of stories we cover and the format we use.
To submit an item for consideration, email a hyperlink to the news story, press release, resource, opportunity announcement, job position description, or event information that is posted online to bulletin@aashe.org. Items must be submitted by 5pm Eastern on Wednesday to be considered for the following Monday's issue. Please note that the format of the AASHE Bulletin does not support the inclusion of Word documents.
The following guidelines are meant to provide a general idea of the types of items we usually publish. The guidelines are also intended to keep the length of the AASHE Bulletin manageable.
General
- We will only include items that take place in the U.S. and or Canada.
- Submitted items must be directly relevant to the campus sustainability community. We are unable to post general sustainability items.
- Items may be submitted by members and non-members alike.
News
- We generally focus on news items that announce new efforts rather than coverage of ongoing initiatives. For instance, the receipt of LEED certification on a new building would fit, but a general article about a campus' green building efforts would not.
- We strive to keep the Bulletin timely - items that are current are most likely to be included. We generally do not include items that took place more than 2 months before the submission date.
- Awards: Only nationally or regionally focused awards will be included.
- New buildings: We will include either the completion/dedication of a green building OR the receipt of LEED certification/other formal green building award (but not both).
- Dorm and other competitions: We can only include dorm v. dorm energy/water competitions once they have been completed. This also applies to all other types of campus competitions.
- We cannot include stories on educational events that take place on and within a single institution.
- We cannot include stories on the participation of an individual campus in national sustainability events that include multiple campuses (such as RecycleMania and Campus Sustainability Day). Instead, we generally post one story on the entire event. Click here for an example: http://www2.aashe.org/archives/2008/1103.php#7
New Resources
- The New Resources section includes resources recently published by AASHE along with other resources submitted by campuses and other organizations. Examples from the past include campus sustainability reports; campus sustainability focused whitepapers; new magazine, websites, or newsletters focused on campus sustainability; and campus sustainability videos. See the AASHE Bulletin archives or the AASHE Digest for more examples.
Opportunities
- We cannot include announcements for a sustainability course at an individual campus.
Jobs & Internships
- Submitting a job posting to the AASHE Bulletin is free of charge. We will include the posting in one issue, and the posting will remain in the archives thereafter. The process for submitting a position is the same as submitting all other types of items for the publication, and can be found in the highlighted guidelines above.
- We can only publish positions that are directly focused on advancing sustainability in higher education.
Events
- The Bulletin has a wide geographical readership; therefore submitted events must be of interest beyond the locality, state, or province.
- Events will only be posted one time, unless AASHE is involved in the event.
- All events posted in the AASHE Bulletin will also be posted in the AASHE Calendar.
