Niles Barnes joined AASHE in 2007 and currently serves as the senior programs coordinator where he manages AASHE's online Resource Center and annual awards program. Niles's passion lies in helping colleges and universities achieve their sustainability goals, believing they can be strong transformative forces in putting our society on the path towards sustainability. Previously, Niles worked at the University of Kentucky as assistant sustainability coordinator of the Residence Life Sustainability Program. Niles was also a co-founder of Greenway Transit, the first transportation company in North Carolina whose vehicles run solely on human energy and biofuels. Niles is currently working towards a Master of Environmental Management (MEM) degree at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. He holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Kentucky, a certificate in business administration, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
