This case study will explore how Willamette evolved from its early beginnings in environmentalism, with various independent projects throughout campus, to becoming nationally recognized for its cohesive institutions that facilitate effective sustainability practices today. Using a chronological approach, the case will discuss how Willamette institutionalized sustainability, how long it took, and the key turning points in this process. Finally, the case will analyze the factors leading to Willamette’s success and suggest best practices that can be implemented to strengthen sustainability initiatives at other organizations.
