The Feasibility and Benefits of Biodiesel at the University Level (The University of Florida)
This paper was written after a year of researching biodiesel at the university level as well as visiting major biodiesel facilities in the Southeast. The intention of the paper and the proposal is to have a biodiesel production facility constructed at the University of Florida. The paper outlines the benefits of having a biodiesel facility in place and the cost savings that it will provide to the university, along with all the other components that could be incorporated with having a biodiesel facility at a major university campus.
The paper is an effort to investigate the feasibility of and bring forth a biodiesel facility to the university level, mainly the University of Florida. In order to better understand biodiesel and its place at the university level, our research has led us through countless university departments and extensions as well as many private firms. We firmly believe that a biodiesel facility would be extremely beneficial, both economically and environmentally to any University.
Our goal is to bring a biodiesel facility to the University by sharing the knowledge and insight that we have gained from our experiences over the past year promoting sustainability through biodiesel. We feel that, not only is it a sustainable solution for the University but it will offer cost savings in order to keep courses, professors and the best students.
In the pursuit of our research we have met with as many faculty and staff as possible for guidance, advice and to gain a full understanding of the University system as a whole. We have also made trips to as many biodiesel facilities as possible to get a comprehensive understanding of the industry, facilities, and biodiesel production in general. In the report we take into account all aspects and perspectives our research has yielded in order to provide the most adequate and thorough plan possible.
I would like to thank the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education for the opportunity and I hope that it leads to a more sustainable environment at the university and is the beginning of what is to come.
