The "how-to" guides below have been published solely by AASHE or produced in partnership with another organization. 

Accelerating Campus Climate Initiatives:  Breaking Through Barriers (pdf) is a practical guide for anyone working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at a college or university.  Offering real-world examples from campuses around the country, the book helps readers determine and drive projects based on a different way of thinking about buildings, utilities, perceptions, institutional structures, and all the other components comprising energy systems and campuses.  Topics covered include climate action planning, buildings and utilities, renewable energy, transportation, and carbon offsets.

Cool Campus!  A How-To Guide for College and University Climate Action Planning (pdf) is a manual to assist colleges and universities in creating climate action plans. It is intended to fill the gap in currently available resources by outlining a how-to approach for each of the various steps required to develop and implement a plan for campus climate leadership. It was released in July 2009.

Creating a Campus Sustainability Revolving Loan Fund: A Guide for Students (pdf) describes an innovative and powerful mechanism for financing sustainability projects, such as energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy installations, on campus. The guide provides step-by-step guidance for establishing revolving loan fund for campus sustainability, based on the experiences of the authors in setting up such a fund at Macalester College. It was released in April 2007.

A Guide to Developing a Sustainable Food Purchasing Policy (pdf) is intended to help universities, colleges, hospitals, and other institutions - as well as those advocating for food system change - create, promote and implement practical sustainable food purchasing policies. The document is a product of the Sustainable Food Policy Project, which was initiated in 2006 to support efforts by educational, healthcare and other institutions to have a positive impact on the food system through purchasing. It was released in November 2007.
