STARS Reporting Coordinator Job Description

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) seeks a Reporting Coordinator to contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) Reporting Tool and system content. STARS is a voluntary, self-reporting framework for gauging relative progress toward sustainability for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Duties

The STARS Reporting Coordinator’s primary responsibility will be to identify ways to improve the STARS Reporting Tool and use the data submitted by STARS Participants. This work will involve responding to detailed questions on STARS credits, designing data views with the information submitted through the STARS Reporting Tool, and developing resources and publications for STARS users and the public. In addition, the Reporting Coordinator will work with the STARS Content Specialist and other staff and volunteers on refining the STARS credits. In order to contribute to the success of STARS, the Reporting Coordinator will:

  • Develop an understanding of STARS credits
  • Assist with customer support in responding to questions on specific credits and the Reporting Tool
  • Design and test new features within the Reporting Tool
  • Write and compile STARS publications such as the Annual Report
  • Use basic computer programming code to build and edit credits in the online STARS Reporting Tool (the Tool uses the Python programming language, but advance knowledge of Python or programming is not required for this position)
  • Help resolve IT issues and bugs when they arise
  • Participate in other activities as assigned within AASHE and the STARS Program

  • Experience with a range of computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including racial and ethnic minority populations
  • Commitment to advancing sustainability in higher education
  • Bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred)
  • At least 3 years of related successful work experience
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in sustainability in a higher education setting,
  • Background with development and/or use of rating systems,
  • Familiarity with STARS
  • Experience with facilitating groups

Location

AASHE has offices in Denver, CO, and Lexington, KY. The STARS Reporting Coordinator may work remotely from a home office anywhere in the continental United States. Preference will be given to candidates located in the same community as other STARS staff members (the Boston to Philadelphia corridor) or AASHE offices in Lexington and Denver.

Hours and Compensation

This is a full-time exempt position. Starting salary is $40,000–$44,000, depending on experience. Health insurance is included.

Reporting

This position reports to the STARS Program Manager.
