AASHE Seeks Applicants for Resource Center Manager

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) seeks a Resource Center Manager to lead the ongoing development and operation of its interactive, online Resource Center. Through the Resource Center, AASHE strives to provide up-to-date information about how colleges and universities are pursuing sustainability and to help illuminate best practices via how-to guides and other publications, discussion forums, wikis, and databases. Many resources are publicly available, while others are restricted to AASHE members. Planned changes to the Resource Center include streamlining the resource development and maintenance process and enabling members to contribute to resources and interact directly with each other.

The Resource Center Manager will be joining an existing team of staff dedicated to the development and operation of the Resource Center. The ability to work collaboratively and creatively within a distributed organization is vital to this position.

Duties

The Resource Center Manager will:

  • Ensure that the Resource Center meets members’ needs and provides membership value
  • Oversee implementation of technical tools and online resources that will facilitate member interaction and allow members to contribute content to the site (including interactive forums, blog posts, and existing and planned resources)
  • Assist in the production of AASHE publications, including the AASHE Bulletin, AASHE Digest and how-to guides
  • Develop metrics to measure member value and communicate the impact of the Resource Center
  • Foster partnerships with other organizations, businesses, and individuals to create content, assist with publicity, and provide financial support for the Resource Center
  • Transition the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment Reporting System to a broader reporting system that allows all higher education institutions in the U.S. to report their greenhouse gas emissions and climate planning efforts
  • Respond to media inquiries by providing statistics and other information from the Resource Center
  • Coordinate with other AASHE programs to ensure that the Resource Center supports AASHE’s other activities
  • Lead outreach efforts to encourage use of the Resource Center
  • Manage customer service related to the Resource Center
  • Perform other duties and tasks as necessary to support the ongoing development of the Resource Center

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Extremely strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of and experience using information technology, content management systems, and website editing tools
  • Experience developing and publishing content
  • A broad understanding of, and interest in, sustainability in higher education
  • Collaborative attitude and strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with limited supervision
  • Bachelor's degree (graduate degree preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience leading multi-person projects
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Drupal content management system
  • An eye for design, and experience working with graphic designers

Location

AASHE’s central office is based in Lexington, KY, but the Resource Center Manager may work remotely from a home office anywhere in the U.S. Other Resource Center staff members and interns are located in both the central AASHE office and in home offices.

Hours and Compensation

This is a full-time position. Salary is $40,000–50,000, depending on experience. Health insurance is included.

Reporting

This position reports to the Executive Director and works in collaboration with existing Resource Center and IT staff.
