This post is related to STARS, AASHE's Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System.

A few STARS Participants have contacted us for advice on converting units (not limited to energy). I was hoping there was a standard or endorsed conversion tool out there, but haven't found one yet.

NIST, the National Institution of Standards and Technology, provides a few links, but does not formally endorse any of them or provide their own:

http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Reference/unitconversions.html

They do provide a do-it-yourself conversion list:

Working as a programmer (the STARS Web Application) in the academic field I'm torn between finding an automated solution and providing the basis for the calculations.

Has anyone else found conversion tools that they would like to vouch for or know of a conversion tool backed by a national or international organization?

I was hoping that the BIPM (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures, translated: International Bureau of Weights and Measures) provided a conversion tool, but it doesn't seem to.  However, it does provide several links to the NIST site, including the NIST page for outside conversion tools (referenced in the previous post).

Has anyone else found anything?
