This post is related to STARS, AASHE's Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System.

Dear Community Members,

We’re looking for your feedback on how to improve the STARS Reporting Tool and website (http://stars.aashe.org).

How could we make the STARS Reporting Tool more useful? What new features would you like to see added?

Once institutions have completed their STARS submissions, are there any graphs, charts, or ways of seeing completed STARS data that would be useful?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and suggestions!

Hi Laura,

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this.

One idea would be to change the presentation / format of the final rating from a basic list of scores to something with more visual impact. Graphs, icons which represent the various categories, section & category summaries, evidence of progress could all help communicate the rating to those less versed in the technicalities of STARS and sustainability.

Ultimately what you could have is a kind of visual report card which summarizes the situation underpinning the overall rating. It could even be interactive, providing you with the ability to drill down to greater levels of detail from a kind of summary 'page'.

Something of this nature - a snapshot summary - would be easier to share with students and others who may want to know how sustainable an institution is, without being overwhelmed with data and scores and points.

Thanks,

Thanks for your post, Neil!

During the STARS February webinar, "STARS Reporting Tool 101," we received some great questions and comments about the Reporting Tool.  Webinar participants were interested in a feature that would allow the export of an institution's STARS data set prior to submitting this data set for a STARS Rating.  One participant mentioned a "what if" feature would be helpful,  This feature would allow institutions to enter different scenarios for a specific credit to see what points a particular intitative would earn.

I am interested in other ideas for enhancing the STARS Reporting Tool data export feature as well as other general features that may be helpful.

I look forward to future posts on this subject!
