Has anyone brought a Dream Machine to campus? If so, would you be willing to discuss your experience with students on my campus?
Hi Dedee,
Cal Poly Pomona installed three Pepsi Dream Machines over the summer. It's taken a lot of effort to get students to understand what they are, but once they learn about the machines, they are excited to use them. Let me know what kind of information you are interested in learning about. I'm happy to share our experience.

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) installed one 3 weeks ago. You can contact Steve Heinitz, Recycling Coordinator (srheinit@vcu.edu) for more information. Jacek Ghosh, Director of Sustainability
This is really interesting. However, it would never happen at our school because our Dining Services provider has a contract with Coca-Cola and they don't sell any Pepsi products.

Hey Dedee,
A couple other campuses I know of have "reverse" vending machines similar to the pepsi dream machine. Northwestern has two of the Greenopolis machines on campus (Julie Cahillane, Manager of Recycling & Refuse there said they are being handled by a couple of students from the Kellogg School of Management who won a competition to host the machines on campus) She might have more info to share or be able to put you in touch with the students working on it.
Bard College also has a Tomra UNO reverse vending machine. More info on it is available here. Laurie Husted, Environmental Resources Auditor at Bard would be a contact on it. Fairfield U also has this type of machine. More info here.
In a listserv posting, there were some concerns raised about these machines including;
potential to confuse students used to existing recycling services and bins
energy used by the machines
maintenance issues; cleaning, emptying and repairs of the machines
However, Joe Laur, Senior Manager at Greenopolis also has convincing things to say about the machines in support of them. He may also be a good person to connect with.
Hope that helps a little!
