We currently use plastic wrapped drinking straws in our D Hall.
Several suggestions is to move away from wrapped straws, but what is the thought of doing away with drinking straws altogether? Our Dish Room says straws cause damage to equipment and often times having to get repair tech in to correct.
How are other Colleges handling Drinking Straws, disposable cutlery etc?
thanks
E
Eddie,
I am currently a Unity College student and we do not have straws or disposable cutlery. Is it possible to switch over to silverware? Eliminating the extra plastic will cut back on post consumer waste.

Hi Eddie,
I attended Unity College and am now working for the University of Southern Maine. Neither of these locations ever had straws during my time and seem to function just fine without them. I say let students know why you're getting rid of them (damaging to dish equipment, not sustainable) and do it. Good luck! :)
