Hello, Does anyone know of and use nontoxic bathroom deodorizer discs? If so, what are they? Most seem to have acetone and dichlorobenzene as well as synthetic fragrances from non-disclosed sources. Please help me/us out. Thank you, Carol Rosskam, Sustainability Program Mgr., Northeastern University, Boston

Hi Carol,
A colleague who works at Aramark pointed me in the direction of InformInc.org and a recent article they had on the topic which also includes links to manufacturers: Respiratory Hazards and Restroom Deodorant Blocks (PDF).
In addition to the above link, it may be worth exploring the possibility of eliminating the use of deodorant disks all together. Do you think that is a possibility?
Best,
Niles

Hi Carol,
I am searching for a producer of such deodorizer discs and will let you know if I can track any down. I've seen recipes for making these for home use (using just baking soda, water, and an essential oil or fragrance) but obviously that would not be useful for the scale you are talking about.
I am not sure if Northeastern has a green cleaning program, but our example policies and programs from other campuses may be helpful too.
Cheers,
Niles
