What thoughts do you have about campus sustainability professional development opportunities? Do you think there are enough opportunities? Are there some topics or areas where you would like to see more professional development opportunities offered? What does the campus sustainability community need in terms of professional development? What is being covered adequately already and what holes need to be filled?

Thanks,
Seann

Hi Seann - I hope this is still relevant and useful to you.  Our university just initiated a sustainability workshop.  The class is focused on Leadership Opportunities in Sustainability, as that is the name of the class.  The message is "lead by example."

There are a multitude of opportunities for folks to become sustainability champions on campus.  Creating green teams to promote and initiate sustainable development, creating environmental/energy liaisons to go through buildings on Friday to shut loads down, seizing opportunities within their own department to grow and promote sustainability....and the list goes on.  You are asking some very real and important question, and I think some of them can only be answered by looking at your own school to assess its needs.

Best,

Crystal Simmons, Appalachian State University
