Does anyone have a model policy for offsetting air travel emissions? And, if so, can you describe how you implemented the policy to get full compliance?

This is one of the tangible actions in the ACUPCC but I can't find any examples.

Thanks!

Hi Chris & Shannan -

I don't know of such a policy off the top of my head - and unfortunately don't have the time right now to dig in, but in the ACUPCC Reporting System, you can see all of the 54 schools that selected that tangible action (via the "statistics & dataviews" section) - http://acupcc.aashe.org/statistics-search.php?r=3

Connecting with the Implementation Liaisons at some of the other schools on that list could be a good place to start (and please continue the conversation here, as appropriate, so we all can learn!)

Thanks & all the best,

Georges

I'm so glad other people are working on this as well!  I've been working on getting this started at my university but like Chris said, there really is no good information out there.  I know that there a couple of universities that have posted their plans on the ACUPCC site, but very few. Of the schools who have committed to Tangle Action 3, only a small handful actually have plans developed.  The rest simply state that they are committed.

Here at Northern Arizona University, we are trying to find a way to not only offset our air travel emissions, but fleet vehicle emissions, and rental car emissions as well.  We are putting together a way for the department responsible for the emissions to put money into a separate "offset" account, and those funds would go toward renewable energy, efficiency, etc. projects on campus, so that we can get closer to becoming carbon neutral.

I have some more specific information on exactly how we're working on starting this.  If anybody has any questions or would like to brainstorm some ideas together, my email is ken34@nau.edu.
