Walking and Busing to ASU's Memorial Union from Area Hotels

Tempe Mission Palms

Distance from conference site: 0.78 miles

Walking instructions

  • At the front door of the hotel, you will be facing south. Proceed to 5th Street and turn left or east.
  • Continue on 5th Street to Forrest, where you can cross the street to the south side of the road. Continue traveling east on 5th Street.
  • At College Avenue, turn right or south.
  • Continue on College Avenue until University Drive.
  • At the corner of University Drive and College Avenue (a good landmark here is the Fulton Center Building on the northeast corner of the intersection) cross to the south side of University Drive. At this point, College Avenue becomes Cady Mall, a pedestrian walkway on the ASU campus.
  • Continue south on Cady Mall. Pass the School of Human Evolution of Social change and keep going past the circular fountain. ASU's Memorial Union is the first building on the left (or east) past the fountain on Cady Mall.

Bus Instructions

  • At the front door of the hotel, you will be facing south. Proceed to 5th Street and turn right or west.
  • Continue on 5th Street to Mill Avenue. Cross Mill Avenue to the west side, then turn left or south to cross again over 5th Street. You should end up on the southwest corner at the FLASH Back bus stop.
  • Board the bus here, and take it to stop #14, Student Services Building.
  • When you exit the bus, you will be on the southwest corner of Gammage Parkway and Forrest. Cross the street towards the brick & glass building (which will be closest to you)
  • Turn left or north, walk short distance and turn right to briefly enter the circular courtyard. Leave the courtyard and take the walkway along the turquoise and pink stucco building on your left.
  • Follow the diagonal path to your left at the end of the stucco building. Take that path until the end of the hedge and at the north end of the brick building that is now on your right.
  • Turn right, and follow this pathway. The Memorial Union will be directly in front of you across Cady Mall (the fountain will be on your left). Use the entrance in the middle of the building.

Courtyard Marriott - Tempe Downtown

Distance from conference site: 0.92 miles

Walking instructions

  • At the front of the hotel, you will be facing south. Bear right to use the sidewalk to proceed south on Ashe Avenue
  • Take Ashe Avenue until you reach University Drive. Turn left.
  • Walk east on University Drive; cross Mill Avenue at the light and continue on University Drive.
  • At the corner of University Drive and College Avenue (a good landmark here is the Fulton Center Building on the northeast corner of the intersection) cross to the south side of University Drive. At this point, College Avenue becomes Cady Mall, a pedestrian walkway on the ASU campus.
  • Continue south on Cady Mall. Pass the School of Human Evolution of Social change and keep going past the circular fountain. ASU's Memorial Union is the first building on the left (or east) past the fountain on Cady Mall.

Alternate walking instructions (through shopping district on Mill Avenue)

  • Exit the hotel through the rear doors (north side) and bear left to through the parking lot/driveway to access the sidewalk on 5th Street.
  • At 5th Street, turn right or east and take 5th Street to Mill Avenue.
  • At Mill Avenue, turn right or south. Continue on Mill to University Drive.
  • At Mill and University, turn left or east onto University and to cross Mill Avenue. Remain on University Drive, walking east.
  • At the corner of University Drive and College Avenue (a good landmark here is the Fulton Center Building on the northeast corner of the intersection) cross to the south side of University Drive. At this point, College Avenue becomes Cady Mall, a pedestrian walkway on the ASU campus.

  • When you exit the bus, you will be on the southwest corner of Gammage Parkway and Forrest. Cross the street towards the brick & glass building (which will be the building closest to you)
  • Turn left or north, walk short distance and turn right to briefly enter the circular courtyard. Leave the courtyard and take the walkway along the turquoise and pink stucco building on your left.

Walking instructions

  • From the front of the hotel, proceed to the right or east down Apache Boulevard.
  • At the light at College Avenue, cross the street.
  • Continue north on College Avenue, and cross over Lemon Street
  • Continue north as College Avenue becomes Cady Mall, a pedestrian area on ASU's campus.
  • Memorial Union will be a 2 story building and is the second building on the right after Lemon Street, just after the WP Carey School of Business building.

Holiday Inn - Tempe

Distance from conference site: 0.72 miles

Walking instructions

  • From the front of the hotel, cross the street (on the corner of Rural and Apache to reach the north side of Apache Boulevard
  • Turn left to cross the street again so that you are on the northwest corner of Rural Road and Apache Boulevard
  • Proceed west on Apache Boulevard (you should be on the North side of the street)
  • At College Avenue, turn right or north towards ASU's campus
  • Continue north on College Avenue, and cross over Lemon Street
  • Continue north as College Avenue becomes Cady Mall, a pedestrian area on ASU's campus.
  • Memorial Union will be a 2 story building and is the second building on the right after Lemon Street, just after the WP Carey School of Business building.

Comfort Inn and Suites - Tempe

Distance from conference site: 0.85 miles

Walking instructions

  • From the front of the hotel, proceed left or west down Apache Boulevard
  • At the light on Rural Road, turn right to cross the street to the north side of Apache Boulevard
  • Turn left to cross the street again so that you are on the northwest corner of Rural Road and Apache Boulevard
  • Proceed west on Apache Boulevard (you should be on the North side of the street)
