Building on the runaway success of last year's event, Food Day 2012 at the University of Minnesota are two full-days of events, presentations, symposiums, and eating! Food Day 2012 is a student organized event with support from The Healthy Foods, Healthy Lives Institute.
October 23rd - themed "Food good for eating," an expo will be held in the Great Hall of Coffman Memorial Union. Featuring 30+ tables from community and University organizations on topics ranging from health and nutrition, to industry, sustainability and farming, October 23rd is a day to "get-to-know" food. A great lunch from a local caterer will be accented by a cooking demo by a local chef of the meal being served for lunch. It's as if you had your own personal chef! The day runs from 10am-3pm and will include interactive experiences such as: "how to grow plants in a dorm room," sustainability wheel game, Food Day pledge, and "what does dinner cost"?
October 24th - themed "Food good for thinking," turns away from the expo-style format and is located in Coffman Theatre on the 2nd floor of Coffman Memorial Union. 9am- 5pm is separated into two-hour time blocks led by various partners of Food Day 2012. Events will be a research symposium from the U of M's own Humphrey School, student-led "lightning talks," and a very special presentation from the Institute on the Environment. The evening hours will feature a community-focused event with the aim to bring in community members and hold a dialog on the future of food in the Twin Cities and Minnesota.
