Zero Waste Week Challenge
Oct. 17 - 24
More than 200 Tufts students will participate in the Zero Waste Week Challenge to raise awareness that trash doesn’t just “disappear.” Participating students will place all trash that would otherwise not be recycled or composted into a clear plastic bag that they will carry around with them for the week. Sponsored by the Tufts Eco-Reps and Office of Sustainability, the challenge compels students to think about the waste they accumulate as they will be carrying it around all week. The plastic bags will be dropped off on the Tufts Residential Quad on October 24th, and the amount of participant trash will be compared to the trash generated from a comparable sized dorm. In addition, donuts will be given to the first 100 participants to drop off their bags and all participants will be entered in a raffle to win a $25 Boloco gift card. The Story of Bananas
Oct. 24
Tufts Dining and Tufts Office of Sustainability present The Story of Bananas, a cradle to grave look into bananas modeled off of Annie Leonard’s educational series, "The Story of Stuff." Since bananas are the most popular fruit taken from Tufts’ dining halls and eaten globally, Dining and the OOS seek to educate the student base on the path of this particular fruit from farm to plate to compost heap. There will be five table displays, a foodie educational game (check off the different stations) with banana-themed prizes, and the gamut of banana-containing foods for dinner! Posters and informational displays will be set up around Dewick MacPhie Dining Center throughout the day. Activities and official festivities, including a chocolate banana-dipping station and interactive game, will occur at dinnertime from 5-8pm.
Annie Leonard Talk and Q&A
