Food Recovery Challenge and Campus Tour (10am-1:30pm)
NYSAR3 (New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse & Recycling) and St. John's University (NY) are hosting an event on St. John's Queens Campus where the EPA Food Recovery challenge will be discussed and a tour will be given of St. John's O2 Composting Facility. The Food Recovery Challenge is part of EPA's WasteWise Program. The Challenge provides information and encouragement for participants to divert waste from landfills and incineration through a voluntary and free program. Rachel Chaput from the Sustainable Materials Management Program at EPA Region 2 will describe the elements of the program, public recognition opportunities, and the financial benefits of reducing food waste. St. John's will showcase its O2 Composting Facility and give a tour to the guests.
Outdoor Movie Night & Sustainability Initiatives Showcase (7-10pm)
St. John's Sustainability in collaboration with St. John's Earth Club are celebrating Campus Sustainability Day with an outdoor showing of "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax." There will be an introduction to the event with a showcase of the sustainability initiatives occurring on St. John's Queens campus, highlighting the MillionTreesNYC and Tree Campus USA projects.
