Powershift 09 Live: Solar Energy on Campus
Sunday 5pm
This afternoon I attended a panel discussion entitled "Solar Energy on Campus: How your College can Lead the Way". It was led by a representative from the Solar College Initiative.
This panel provided a thorough look into solar as a extremely viable option and showed the immense potential for growth in the near future. Sun Edison was the highlight of the discussion, being a leader in solar panel construction, installation, and maintenance. It was amazing to see how enthused students were about opportunities for their campuses to get more involved in solar energy, but also how many colleges and universities have already invested a great deal into it. The students attending this panel had obviously been the ones pushing for solar use at their institutions. Power purchase agreements were also focused on as a way of funding the panels. This panel definitely provided reason to get excited about solar energy and its soon-to-be increase in availability and decrease in cost.
