Powershift 09 Live: Initial Thoughts
Friday, 9pm
We've made it to DC and, one day down, sleep- and sustenance- deprived, we have never felt better. Being surrounded by 10,999 intelligent and charged young people, fused with creative solutions to our dependence on fossil fuels is indescribably empowering.
The Energy Action Coalition has successfully constructed this event in order to funnel all of this talent into tangible action. Marshall Ganz of Harvard University led today's pre-conference workshop to teach us how to tell our narrative of me, us, and now – much like the technique used by President Obama. This connecting of our past to our collective goals taught us that our experiences are valuable and must be utilized to spur change. Speakers this evening included Rocky Anderson, Ken Salazar, Van Jones, Majora Carter, Gillian Caldwell, and Lisa Jackson. Each speech given declared support for, admiration of, and challenges to this generation seeking change. It is clear that we have a lot of work to do, along with a lot of ways in which to do it. It has been an inspiring day and we can't wait to see what comes next.
