Powershift 09 Live: Convincing Your President to Sign the ACUPCC
I just attended a discussion led by Second Nature's Stephen Muzzy on convicing your president or chancellor to sign the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment. We talked about the problems students encounter when trying to convince their leaders to sign the commitment, and how those challenges can be overcome. In particular, we discussed the Five Steps students, staff, and faculty can take:
- Do Your Homework: Figure out what your president thinks about the ACUPCC.
- Assuming that the president will not sign on without a little positive pressure, take a minute to devise a strategy that will convince your president to do the right thing.
- Based on what you choose as your strategy, choose the top three tactics that will help you win. You can always do more if you’ve got the people power!
- Keep it simple. Plug your tactics in a plan and timeline to keep things straight.
- Do it!
